Children & Youth Counselling in Hamilton, Brantford, and Across Ontario
Support for children and teens navigating anxiety, emotional challenges, and life transitions.
We offer culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy for children and youth ages 6–18, available in-person in Hamilton and Brantford, and virtually across Ontario.
Children and youth may not always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Therapy helps them process emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and build emotional resilience.
We support children and teens experiencing:
Anxiety, excessive worry, or fears
Sadness, depression, or mood changes
School stress, bullying, or academic pressure
Emotional outbursts, anger, or withdrawal
Low self-esteem or confidence
Attention and focus challenges, including ADHD
Grief, loss, or major life changes such as divorce or moving
Identity, cultural experiences, and sense of belonging
Social challenges or difficulty making and maintaining friendships
Counselling helps young people feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and better able to navigate life’s challenges.
How Counselling Helps Children and Teens
Our Approach to Child and Youth Therapy
Our therapists use developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approaches tailored to your child’s age, personality, and needs.
Play-Based and Creative Therapy
Younger children often communicate through play rather than words. We use play, art, storytelling, and creative activities to help children express emotions, build coping skills, and feel safe in the therapy environment.
Culturally Responsive and Trauma-Informed Care
We recognize that each child’s experiences are shaped by their family, culture, identity, and environment. Our approach respects these experiences and creates space for meaningful conversations that support emotional healing and growth.
Teen-Friendly Counselling
Adolescents need a space where they feel respected, heard, and understood. We provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where teens can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences while developing practical tools for daily life.
Parent and Caregiver Support
Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child’s support system. When appropriate, we provide guidance and strategies to help you better understand your child’s emotional needs and strengthen your relationship.
What to Expect in the First Session
The first session focuses on helping your child feel comfortable and beginning to understand their needs.
For Children Under 12
Sessions typically include both the child and their caregiver. This helps children feel supported while giving parents an opportunity to share concerns and goals.
For Teens Ages 12–18
We often begin with both the teen and caregiver briefly, followed by one-on-one time with the teen. This allows teens to speak openly while maintaining appropriate parent involvement.
A Flexible, Child-Centered Approach
Every child is different. We tailor the process based on your child’s comfort level, needs, and developmental stage. Our goal is to build trust and create a supportive foundation for therapy.
